However, people do often ask “Does the Gold Coast have Bulk Billing Dentists?” It’s definitely the ideal situation to have Medicare Bulk Billed Dental coverage, however at the moment it is unfortunately not a service offered to the whole population. The good news is that there are definitely Bulk Billing Dental options available, so we’ll go through them now.
In terms of Bulk Billing Dentist, Gold Coast offers the following options:
- Childrens Medicare Bulk Billed Dentistry, Gold Coast
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a fantastic scheme run by the Government that gives families access to Medicare Bulk Billed Dentistry for children. You read it right – FREE Dental for Kids. Now while it is available to most families, there are some requirements that need to be met in order to receive the funding.
- Children must be aged between 2-17 to be eligible for the scheme.
- Children must be eligible for Medicare
- The Child or Family must be getting some form of Centrelink Payment, for example:
- Family Tax Benefit A
- Parenting Payment
- Carer Payment
- Youth Allowance

If eligible, your child can receive up to $1000 of Medicare Bulk Billed Dental treatment (to use over 2 calendar years). Treatments covered include:
- Check-ups
- X-Rays
- Teeth Cleaning
- Fissure Sealing
- Fillings
- Root Canals
- Extractions
Pretty much, most dental treatments that children can have. It’s a really great scheme as Children can have fully private, top quality dental care, installing good oral hygiene practices from a young age. - Free Kids Dental Vans Gold Coast, by Queensland Health
The Child and Adolescent Oral Health Services is also known as the School Dental Service. This is a legacy from back in the day – I still remember my school dental van visits from when I was a kid. Nonetheless, it is a very important scheme, ensuring all kids can have access to good oral health care.
The requirements are that kids be four years or older and not have completed year 10, live in Queensland, or go to school in Qld and be eligible for Medicare.
Its an encompassing General Dental and Emergency Dental care system for Queensland Kids. You don’t have to go to the school where the dental van is based, you just have to call a booking number to book your child in.
In the Gold Coast, to access the Kids Free Dental you just have to call Oral Health Services on 1300 300 850 or 07 5680 9550.

- Free / Publicly Funded Dental in the Gold Coast by Queensland Health
There are some provisions for Free Dental services by Oral Health Queensland. Patients who have a valid concession card (Centrelink issued or Department of Veteran Affairs issued), health care card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or Queensland Seniors card, are eligible for Free Dental care by Queensland Health.
Either in a Gold Coast based Queensland Health Dental Clinic, or via vouchers issued for use at Private Dentist (including Boctor Dental Smilecentre at all three of our locations, Ashmore, Bundall and Currumbin), you could be eligible for Free Dental Treatment.
Private Dental Vouchers are often generated by Qld Oral Health services to increase the number of appointments available for public dental patients for emergency, general or denture care. Sometimes voucher availability can depend on quarterly budget allocation for each Queensland Oral Health location, but if vouchers are exhausted for the quarter, you can still get public dental treatment through one of the public Gold Coast Oral Health facilities.
Emergency treatment (eg if you have a toothache) is usually treated with priority, however general treatment is available under both public clinic and private dental voucher.
To get treatment in a public dental facility, or to request a private dental voucher to use in one of our 3 Gold Coast Dentist locations (Ashmore, Bundall or Currumbin), you will need to call Gold Coast Oral Health Services on 1300 300 850 or 07 5680 9550.
